The Winter Solstice began in the Northern Hemisphere in Central Texas, on December 21, at 3:41am.
Acknowledging the Archangels and Ancestors who hold the cardinal directions is a variable tradition known in many cultures, who also created significant monuments to track and honor the great evolving nature on which humans depend.
A simple ritual of lighting a new candle and, using a compass, locate yourself in the center of the directions. It can be quite humbling in a beautiful way, to realize how immense the world we stand upon actually is.
Intentionally facing each direction in sequence, spend a few moments reflecting, engagin a slight bow, then looking deep into the distance. Begin with the East, the domain of Archangel Raphiel and ancestors of invention, turn to the South, Archangel Michael's domain and our ancestors by blood; next face West, held by Archangel Gabriel and the ancestors of the old stories. End standing North, held by Archangel Uriel the Divine ancestors.
This Winter Solstice Prayer comes from master teacher Eon.
Purpose: to honor the seasons and accept with grace one's helplessness before them.
Light a Solstice candle about 4:30pm the day of, or a few days after the Winter Solstice. Keep it burning unless you leave the house, when you go to bed, or it goes out of it's own accord. At some point in the evening, look at the candle flame and realize,
This candle is not bringing the light; I am not bringing the light. This candle and I are celebrating the coming of the light, which comes without our calling and cannot be resisted.
Peace to you.
